An 80th Birthday Leap For Easter Seals
Look out below! Amway Independent Business Owner Barbara Morales recently celebrated her 80th birthday in a very big way—by jumping out of a plane!…all to benefit the families served by Easter Seals® Southern California.
Barbara was joined in the skies over Lake Elsinore, California, by her husband of 62 years, Frank Morales. He even wore his tuxedo. It was a special occasion after all. On the ground, family and friends joined the couple for an afternoon-long celebratory fundraiser complete with food, a raffle, a champagne toast, and more.
Admission to the festivities was $15, with all proceeds going to benefit the children served by Easter Seals® Disability Services. “Fundraising was a great success,” said Patrice Martin, the event’s organizer and fellow Independent Business Owner. “Our supporters included many fellow skydivers at SkyDive Elsinore who learned about Easter Seals, bought raffle tickets and XS!” In total, the event raised over $2,500 with matching grants still coming in.
“We want to help people at Easter Seals,” Barbara Morales said. “If we hear someone needs help, we don’t ever walk away.”
The couple, Diamonds in their Amway business, have been involved with Easter Seals® for more than 50 years. It was only natural that a day about them would be spent focusing on the needs of others. “Our motto is to ‘have fun, make money and make a difference,”‘ said Frank Morales. “We hope to set an example for all people that you can do what you might think you can’t.”
And speaking of examples—Barbara credited former president George H. W. Bush, who celebrated his 85th birthday by skydiving near his home in Maine, as the inspiration for her crazy celebration.
