Easter Seals New Jersey Walk With Me
On May 11th, under a light drizzle at MetLife stadium, Easter Seals New Jersey and over 1,200 warm-hearted participants braved the unseasonably cool temperatures for an incredible cause—Walk With Me. Amway Independent Business Owners (IBOs) Arlene and John Simeone alongside the Simeone Team raised nearly $7,500.
The money raised from the event will fund a wide range of local Easter Seals services and programs, including occupational therapy, speech and play therapy, summer camps, and more. Camp Merry Heart in Hackettstown, New Jersey, is one of the organizations that will benefit.
John and Arlene previously visited Camp Merry Heart—an Easter Seals summer camp serving special needs campers of all ages—and they recalled how important the visit was to their family. They saw first hand the impact their efforts were having on people’s lives—“that camp not only helped children with disabilities, but we saw veterans that needed help being able to get in a canoe or throw out a fishing line. We were able to see people by the zip line that would never have been able to do that because everything was accessible to their needs. It was just very cool.”
While John and Arlene’s first-hand experiences serve as an inspiration, the Easter Seals cause is even closer to home. “I [Arlene] have a 22 year-old nephew who has pretty severe autism. Watching my family and what we had to go through to have services for him was definitely an eye-opener for me.”
Walk With Me “builds unity for our team and other people in need—it helps to build relationships” John explained. And there are no intentions of stopping. The couple hopes to build on their fund-raising successes by inspiring more people to join their Walk With Me Amway family next year.
For John and Arlene, their Amway business provides them with the freedom to help others like their nephew. Arlene sees it as an opportunity to give back—“we have two healthy children. When we look at those children we know we have to give back because it’s by the grace of God that it happens that way. As long as there is strength in us to be able to do it—it’s something we love to do.“
